WELCOME to my first blog!

Welcome! I am glad to say that this is my first blog. You are welcome to comment on the various educational technologies that I will post information on in the next few weeks. There are links to the various technologies so that you can view samples of how each of the technologies work. Enjoy!

I hope that this will help me and you increase the use of technology in the classroom to enhance our students learning.

Wikispaces

I was recently trained by Anne Arundel County Public Schools to use Wikis in the classroom with my students. I have not used my training yet, but there are a few things that I am looking forward to when using it with my students. Many teachers are probably unaware of what a wiki is, how it works, what educational purposes it can have for the classroom. This website Educational Wikis has many helpful items on this website. For example, the first link is of a wikispace created by a teacher that explains what a wiki is and shows how it works. This website can be very beneficial if you are trying to gain interest in training your school to use a wiki in the classroom.
Many students have difficulty studying when they are at home. They will usually leave their binder at school, lose their notes or class work, or just do not care to bother looking at their class work from that day or week.
I am very excited that there is a feature to upload videos into the Wiki. Having the video option for these types of students could be a way for them to study. I have noticed that more and more students are becoming visual learners and with this technology, the could have more academic reinforcement at home. Being about to best fit their needs is what all educators of today are tying to accomplish. Yes, this technology has a lot of planning involved in preparing a teacher, student, or parent to use a Wiki; in the long run, students have opportunities to broaden their academic knowledge because of the video portion of this technology.

Thankfully, uploading videos is not the only capability for a Wiki.

Please visit my Wikispace. Explore the discussion board, various handouts that have been uploaded, as well as videos.

  1. I liked that wix.com web site you talked about on your first page... It seems really easy to use but I read a review about it that said they have no customer support if something goes wrong. Apparently they provide only an email address (no phone number or instant chat) and it sends automatic responses from different sender names... I didn't experience this but there are a few people saying that in the reviews.
